{"id":5574,"date":"2026-06-04T10:27:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T09:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cinquima.uva.es\/?p=5574"},"modified":"2026-06-11T08:55:41","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T07:55:41","slug":"intensa-actividad-cientifica-en-iu-cinquima-durante-la-primavera","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cinquima.uva.es\/en\/intensa-actividad-cientifica-en-iu-cinquima-durante-la-primavera\/","title":{"rendered":"Intense research activity at IU CINQUIMA during the spring"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over the past few months, the CINQUIMA Institute has stepped up its scientific activity through visits from renowned researchers, the organization of specialized training, and the advancement of its own doctoral program.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Advanced training in chemical kinetics<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">On April 16 and 17, we welcomed Professor <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">Jordi Bur\u00e9s<\/span><\/strong>, a researcher of internationally recognized prestige in the field of organic chemistry and chemical kinetics. Currently affiliated with the <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ)<\/span><\/strong> as an <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">ICREA<\/span><\/strong> professor, and following a well-established career at institutions such as Imperial College London and the University of Manchester, he delivered the course <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>\u201cChemical Kinetics Course\u201d<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\">During these sessions, participants were able to delve into modern kinetic analysis tools, essential for understanding reaction mechanisms and optimizing catalytic processes, in line with current trends toward more efficient and sustainable chemistry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5569 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/cinquima.uva.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Curso-Jordi-Bures-16-y-17_04_2026-967x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"366\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Exploring the chemistry of the cosmos<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">We also had the pleasure of welcoming <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">Izaskun Jim\u00e9nez-Serra<\/span><\/strong>, a staff scientist at the CSIC working at the <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>Center for Astrobiology (CAB, CSIC-INTA)<\/strong><\/span>, whose research focuses on astrochemistry and the study of prebiotic molecules in the interstellar medium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">In her lecture, <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">\u201cTowards prebiotic chemistry in the interstellar medium\u201d<\/span><\/strong>, she showed how the use of advanced spectroscopic techniques makes it possible to detect and characterize organic molecules in space. This type of research is key to understanding the chemical complexity of the universe and shedding light on the processes that may lie at the origin of life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5570 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/cinquima.uva.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Conferencia-Izaskun-Jimenez-Serra-20_04_2026-2-806x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Energy, materials and sustainability<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">On May 8, we welcomed <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">Alfredo Ortiz<\/span><\/strong>, Professor at the <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>University of Cantabria<\/strong><\/span> in the field of Chemical Engineering. In his lecture, <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>\u201cMembrane technologies for a hydrogen-based energy transition\u201d<\/strong><\/span>, he highlighted the essential role of polymers in the development of membrane technologies applied to hydrogen storage as an energy carrier and to water purification through nitrate removal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\">His talk highlighted the importance of synthetic and materials chemistry in addressing today\u2019s energy and environmental challenges.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5571 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/cinquima.uva.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Conferencia-Alfredo-Ortiz-8_05_2026-2-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"367\" height=\"489\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Non-covalent interactions and supramolecular chemistry<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">On May 22, we hosted a lecture by <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>Antonio Frontera<\/strong><\/span>, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>University of the Balearic Islands<\/strong><\/span> and an internationally recognized expert in supramolecular chemistry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">Under the title <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>\u201cMetals as Architects: Building Supramolecular Structures through Unconventional Bonds\u201d<\/strong><\/span>, Professor Frontera explored in depth the role of non-covalent interactions\u2014particularly \u03c3-hole interactions\u2014in the construction of supramolecular architectures, as well as his contribution to <span style=\"color: #50bc07\"><strong>IUPAC<\/strong><\/span> recommendations in this field.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5572 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/cinquima.uva.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Conferencia-Antonio-Frontera-22_05_2026-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"490\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>The future of research: our PhD researchers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">On May 29, we held a key activity for the institute: the presentation of the <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">research plans of the PhD Program in Synthetic Chemistry, Catalysis and Advanced Materials<\/span><\/strong>, CINQUIMA\u2019s own doctoral program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.5;\" class=\"translation-block\">The <strong><span style=\"color: #50bc07\">first-year<\/span> <\/strong>PhD researchers showcased the outstanding standard and research potential that characterizes our new generations:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-size: 17px;
